OSTEOPATHY
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. Osteopaths work with the structure and function of the body, and work is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.
How many Osteopathic treatments are required?
Every patient is an individual, so predicting how fast an individual will get better is not an exact science and can rely on various factors. By session number two, a reasonably accurate treatment plan can be provided. Most research evidence suggests exercise compliance is one key factor in positive patient outcomes; therefore, patients need to take on some responsibility in self-management.
One of our central ethos is that we only see a patient for the number of times it takes them to get better. We don't believe in bulk bookings or asking patients back when we don't feel it would benefit them. We aren't all about the numbers and, to be honest, if we see a patient twice, and that's all it takes for them to heal and get better, then we're happy that our job is done and the patients have been given self-management tools they can use in the future.

Osteopathy is a gentle therapy particularly suitable for mothers during and after pregnancy.
We offer a safe and non-invasive specialist treatment for many pregnancy-related conditions. The most common pregnancy pains are backache & 'sciatica', pelvic pain and SPD (pubic/groin pain).
Osteopaths are well trained to recognise contra-indications & treatment should be suitable for any healthy & stable pregnancy.
Pre-conception: Osteopathy and Manual Therapy can help with posture, spinal & pelvic mobility and is helpful if you have pre-existing injuries/spinal problems & are concerned.
During pregnancy: Osteopathy and Manual Therapy can treat various musculoskeletal conditions. It can also help your body prepare by correcting pelvic position & flexibility & promoting pelvic floor integrity.
Post-natal: After birth, you may be prone to strains & sprains. Breastfeeding & carrying a baby also adds tension to the body. If you have any questions about osteopathy and pregnancy, manual therapy and pregnancy, or how we can help you, please contact and call us to arrange an appointment today.

On your first visit to the clinic, we will take a thorough case history and medical background, not only to assist in diagnosing your complaint but to ensure that you are screened effectively to be suitable for Osteopathic treatment and to eliminate any possible underlying healthcare issues.
After the case history, you will be examined while standing to see how your body is moving as a whole. Sometimes, the area that hurts is caused by tissues elsewhere in the body, so it is essential to review the whole body to gain the complete picture when first beginning treatment. To do this, we will ask you to dress down to your underwear if you feel comfortable doing so, so if you would like to bring shorts or a vest top to make you more comfortable, please do.
Once we have gained a working diagnosis and ascertained you are suitable for intervention, treatment will commence. Note that treatment on the first session may be limited due to the time spent screening, but any further sessions will focus more on treatment, as the case history and diagnosis have already been completed.
Due to the physical nature of the treatment, it is not unusual to sometimes feel sore or stiff in the first 24-48 hours after treatment. We will explain any likely reactions that you could expect. If you have any concerns, it is essential to contact us so we can give you advice.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask when booking or during your treatment session. We ask that an adult accompanies children under 16 receiving treatment. Patients do not need a medical referral; Osteopaths are highly trained Allied Health Care Professionals, recognised by the NHS and British Medical Association (BMA) as an independent clinical discipline to diagnose and treat independently. Chaperones are welcome to attend.

INJECTION THERAPIES
Soft tissue and joint injection therapy.
Hyaluronic Acid and PRP injections are used to reduce inflammation and the pain associated with it. There is level I evidence available supporting its efficacy in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA), epicondylitis, bursitis, compressive neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, muscular injuries and osteochondral lesions. Most published research with regards to PRP has been focused on knee OA (limited research in shoulder, elbow, and foot and ankle OA), lateral epicondylitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, whereas spinal and hand conditions have limited research available.
Tendinopathies and partial tendon tears have conflicting evidence available, with level I evidence supporting PRP’s use in rotator cuff tendinopathies and tears. It has been proven that PRP injections are an effective treatment in improving pain and function in patients with subacromial impingement (SAI).

The injections normally take a few days to start working, although some work in a few hours. The effect usually wears off after a few months. The injection may also contain local anaesthetic. This provides immediate pain relief that lasts a few hours.
You may need to rest the treated body part for a few days.Inform the clinician if you have any underlying medical conditions like diabetes , liver, heart or kidney conditions or take anticoagulant medications or have had an allergic reaction to steroid treatments in the past to determine suitability.

Hyaluronic Acid (Viscosupplement)
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance similar to synovial fluid, which occurs naturally in joints and acts to lubricate and protect against shock and stress. HA is commonly used for conditions such as knee and hip arthritis, in order to reduce pain, improve function and facilitate rehabilitation but does not regenerate joint cartilage. Injections last 6-12 months depending on activities.Viscosupplementation can be high molecular or low molecular weight. High molecular weight only needs fewer injections as it more potent and lasts longer in the joint. Generally, hyaluronic acid injections take longer to work than cortisone (up to 4 weeks), but the effect is often longer-lasting – up to 12 months and is more effective in early stages of arthritis.
Side effects may include pain at the injection site, bruising, swelling and fluid build-up in the knee, and rarely allergic reactions. Generally, you should use other options if you have an allergy to hyaluronic acid-based products and you will need to restrain from heavy physical activity for 2 days post treatment.

Platelet-rich Plasma Injections.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a regenerative intervention that uses injections of a concentration of so called platelets to stimulate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints.
PRP injections are prepared by taking patient’s blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. First, red and white cells are removed. Next, we remove the red cells as we know that these red cells break down cartilage and stimulate inflammation – an effect we don’t want for joint injections. These activated platelets are then injected directly into injured or diseased tissue or joint. PRP injections therapy is also very effective is cosmetic dermatology ,alopecia , scars, postsurgical scars, and acne scars it works by improving the quality of the skin and leads to an increase in collagen and elastic fibers.
It is evidence-based treatment which can help to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling in various joints and soft tissues skin rejuvenation, scar reduction , alopecia and cartilage repair.
